We booked the hotel on the internet, after hunting for somewhere that seemed as though it would be near the city but not in it. (We wanted to visit the night market, not live in it!). Booking was easy and we were offered a free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. When we arrived at the airport the driver was there. He provided us with bottles of water, for which we were very grateful, and took us to the hotel. The open-air lobby was impressive, checking in was simple and efficient, and our rooms were very nice. The rooms had wifi, at a more-than-merely-acceptable speed, that cost 500 baht (approximately 10 euros) for 7 days continuous use. Breakfast was an interesting mixture of Thai and European dishes, and the evening dinner menu satisfied the adults, the teenage girl and the eight year old. It was not expensive either. The Horizon is set in wonderful grounds, and the swimming pool was clean and well serviced. The hotel is actually inside a botanical garden large enough to spend several afternoons exploring. It is close enough to the lobby to walk, although the hotel provides golf carts and drivers if you want an effortless tour. The Horizon is about fifteen or twenty minutes from Chiang Mai city, but there is a free nightly shuttle service to the Night Market area. It left at 18:30 and returned at 22:00. We went four or five times in a week, and it was a satisfying way to explore the city in the evening. 3,5 hours was long enough to wander through the centre, but not long enough to make the children tired and grumpy. On a couple of occasions we took a taxi into the centre in the morning to see the temple area. The taxi cost 400 baht (approximately 8 euros). Coming back was much cheaper, about half the price, because we were able to bargain in the centre. The staff were all very, very friendly and very, very helpful. Communication was never a problem at any point. I would not recommend The Horizon for people who want to live right in the heart of Chiang Mai, or people who want to drink and dance the night away. The hotel has no night-club or disco, there is no cinema or dvd library, and the television has only a few channels. For relaxation and quiet enjoyment, with the prospect of as much noise as you could possibly want twenty minutes away, it is unbeatable. Everyone we spoke to while we were there was as happy with the hotel as we were. We will certainly be going back. (www.tripadvisor.com)

The grounds are immaculately manicured and beautiful. The pools are clean and saline. The rooms are well kept and nicely appointed. I had a few issues with staff that either were unwilling or unable to help on a few occasions. Wifi did not reach my room so I had to work in the lobby and was eaten alive by mosquitoes. This is a beautiful setting that I would recommend especially to families with young children. The bike trails and zoo make it a perfect place to explore. After staying one night, I had the distinct feeling that I needed to return someday to walk the grounds even more. There is so much to see. The environment is restful and serene. Even though it is right off the main highway, it maintains a feeling of solitude and calm. Hotel Feature Tip : The bikes are inexpensive to rent and make seeing the lovely expansive grounds much easier (from www.agoda.com)

Resort hotel with all natural surrounds, animals and amenities. Big swimming pool. Travel to town centre required a Highway cab (cheap). Bathroom floor wet due to poor shower design and toilet paper directly behind on cistern (being picky here!) Great hotel for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Can highly recommend it to anyone. The hotel also provides a free shuttle bus service for night shopping in town and also to the airport. Just book it in advance. It free! They also recommended a tour group called JourneyCNX and this group were fantastic. (There is a free Internet service at the lobby which you can use to check out others but this group I can recommend). Hot air ballooning is available with another group, though it is expensive. After two nights stay at Centara Hotel which is located down town, we switched to Horizon to stay away from the busy area. Me and family members had a great stay in this resort hotel. It is a beautiful hotel and the rooms are clean. Up to our expectation when we viewed it on the internet before making our booking. The Staff are pleasant and helpful. Breakfat is good though choices are limited. We had our lunch there too and food are tasty. My children and parents in law like the botanical garden and the plant are beautiful and fascinating. Good time to go during year end where weather is great. Only complaint is there is no wifi connection in the rooms as well as at the lobby and my husband had difficulty in using internet. Will come back next time.

Comfortable rooms, quiet grounds, close proximity to the beautiful botanical garden, large buffet breakfast Located outside of Chiang Mai so you can't walk to any attractions other than the botanical garden. We were quite pleased with our stay at the Horizon Village. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the food was good and the staff friendly. We visited the beautiful botanical garden at 8 AM and had the entire place to ourselves. We were on our way to Sukhothai so it didn't matter that the hotel was located away from the attractions in Chiang Mai. (from www.agoda.com)

got Phase2 1st floor garden view during end of Dec, 2008. The place was very new. Also you get free ticket for Tweechol Botanical Garden [same entrance]. A must see place if u like trees. no sight seeing or restaurants around the resort. you have to travel 10KM back to the city. overall, it was a nice easy affordable resort to stay. I recommend it. Also, I love their services. They're willing to help you with smile. (from www.agoda.com)

We always go back because it is a great location and a great value Coffee shop closes early. Horizon has done a lot to upgrade it's appearance and the service is always great. The addition of the new coffee shop next to the guard gate, when you first enter in is a plus. The coffee is good and it has an internet access point to use as well! (from www.agoda.com)

Beautiful setting & the botanical garden ride is lovely. Dinner at hotel restaurant is very good & they make a mean Margarita! Farther from Chang Mai than you think. Plan on a good 1/2 hour in a taxi each way. Our family, who lives all over the world, met for vacation in Thailand. Horizon Village was a lovely place to stay. Although it will take you 1/2 hour in a taxi each way from Chaing Mai (& you need to have the address with you because most taxi drivers in the city don't know the hotel by name)it was a great place to be all together. The rooms are well appointed. The setting is beautiful, and the restaurant makes great food & drinks. The management was present, friendly & very solicitous of our needs and experience. We especially liked the fact that the guests at Horizon Village were from all over as well as Thai. Definitely a place to relax and enjoy. Not for those who crave the night life.

A perfect relaxing place. Far from anywhere (but they provide free transportation). Although this place is far from anywhere, they provide pick up service before you check-in and drive you to your next destination after you check-out, free of charge. They have adequate facilities for you to enjoy. You can feed camel, buffalo, deer, ostrich, fish, black swan and many other small animals. You can also ride a boat on the lake, and if you are lucky, 2 beautiful white swans will swim around you. They also have a stable with great horses, however they are private owned and not for riding. If you have time in ChiangMai, I recommend this village for 2 days stay! (from www.agoda.com)

Wonderful place to stay for families with young children. The hotel had a botanic garden that you can ride around in by renting a bike and also a small zoo for children. Not many restaurant choices. Only 1 restaurant at the hotel and no other places to eat nearby. We loved this resort. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. It was clean and beautiful. Great for families with children. The rooms were so clean and very comfortable. I would recommend the suite or the deluxe room. The suite is within the older building and the deluxe is located in the newer wing. The salt water pools are fabulous. Unfortunately, we went during the winter time and it was too cold to use the pool. Highly recommend this place if you have your own car as it is located on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. (from www.agoda.com)

usually stay at the Horizon in the standard rooms, so I decided to upgrade to deluxe. The deluxe rooms are in a different section that is much more convenient to access the resort grounds. If convenience is a big factor, choose the deluxe rooms. Nothing. Everything was great We have been here several times and we have enjoyed our stay every single time! If you are looking simply to relax, this is a great place to do it. (from www.agoda.com)

Just being in Chiang Mai, Thailand was a totally different experience, and the Horizon Resort was part of it. I would strongly recommend staying there. It is the perfect place for a honey moon, family vacation or a conference with your company. I loved the staff, they are great people, always willing to help, and despite the communication issue (Thai-English) it was fun trying to talk to them. The rooms were awesome, nothing fancy, but clean, with a style according to northern Thailand. The gardens there are a beauty. It has nice swimming pools, enough area to run, nice fitting room and good restaurants. If you need access to internet, there are computers available as part of the cost. Go there and enjoy the magic of Chiang Mai... It's outside the city but still close enough to make an adventure to the noise and contrasts of the City.

Excellent surprise. This hotel village is beautiful, calm, extremely clean. Super swimming pool and restaurant. Prices are not high for the services given. Only point to know: it is at 10KM from Center of Chiang Mai but easy to join with Yellow Taxi. Clearly to recommend !!

The resort has a very large area for bike riding (you can rent them), an area for paddle boats or kayaks (you can rent them as well), horseback riding, a small zoo (peacocks, camels, deers, ostriches, ducks etc), playground equipment, workout facilities and some very beautiful gardens.

We found this hotel to be an oasis away from the busy city..and our only complaint is the distance into town. Thankfully the hotel realizes this and offers free shuttle service into Chiang Mai...however it is only in the evening. Another time or two in the day would be great!! The service was excellent, the room beautiful and the staff were very helpful in organizing transportation and offering advice about local tours. The Hotel has big plans for expansion in 2008 and my hope is that it does not take away from its tranquil setting and feeling. Being on the grounds of the Botanical Gardens provides an exquisite setting for this very lovely hotel.

Our stay at the hotel was excellent, in terms of worth for money, beautifully decorated landscape and friendly services by the hotel staff. It is a good place for holiday, especially with family members. The Botanic garden is perfect and so well maintained. The hotel is clean and very well kept. Indeed a good place to stay, away from the busy Chiang Mai city centre.

The resort was too far from Chang Mai and there was no courtesy bus. A taxi would have cosst 400 baht - one way -which is far too expensive . There didn't seem to be anyone else staying when I went so it was really quiet and that meant a set breakfast in the morning. Also there are no shops or restaurants nearby or a decent shop, so it was really hard staying there with no transport. The staff were friendly and the rooms very clean, but I would only recommend this place for someone who has a car and not travelling alone.

We stayed for 3 nights. This was our second stay at Horizon Village - and we will keep coming back. This is why: - it is great value for money compared with other Chiang Mai resorts (standard rooms are big enough for a family but the larger rooms are beautiful and well worth the extra cost) - the adjacent Tweechol Botanic Gardens are fabulous (animals to feed, bikes and paddle boats to rent, golf carts to ride, amazing topiary, winding pathways, greenhouses full of orchids) - you can easily spend a whole day there and it is never crowded - the restaurant has a really varied Thai menu and the staff were very attentive and kind (some did not have much English but you could always easily find someone who could speak good English) and of course they doted on the children - some of the extra touches make travelling with kids easier - DVD player in the room, big baths in the larger rooms, lots of cupboards and surfaces for storing things in/on, salt-water swimming pool, swans in the lake, fish in the pond I would not stay here if you want to be in the centre of Chiang Mai (it is 10kms from the city centre) or you are after a roaring nightlife (although they do offer a complimentary shuttle bus to the Night Market each evening) but if you are after a lovely resort to make your base in Chiang Mai, and a beautiful place to spend time without having to travel anywhere, then I am not sure how you could beat Horizon Village.

Expat Family of Four
April 26, 2008
We're a family of four and enjoyed a week at the Horizon. Mom and Dad stayed in a larger room with lakeview and a fabulous balcony, while the kids stayed in a smaller room with a mountain view. The resort was architecturally pleasing and beautifully decorated; the art was tasteful and authentic. The pool was fantastic - a saltwater, not chlorinated one -- very clean, with gorgeous deep blue tile and the perfect temperature. Housekeeping was prompt and quiet. The food in the restaurant was a balanced combination of Western and Thai and quite delicious. (We loved the "lemonade", which was more like limeade!) The staff was courteous and the manager very helpful. We also enjoyed the proximity to the botanical gardens. Bicycling and playing in the paddle boats were great and made for some relaxing days just staying at the resort, rather than sightseeing. The only "negative" was that the soft rock background music in the restaurant got a little old after a week -- adding another tape to the repetoire would probably help! We'd go back in a heartbeat.

I go there with my wife, 2 kids & 2 grandparents. It is suitable for a family especially with kids & elders. It's like a paradise. The hotel will become perfect next month as they'll have new wings hotel, playground & other facilities for kids & elders. The owner of the hotel is also live there, in other words, their management will be the best. The food in the restaurant is also delicious. For the big park, you can see all species of plants & flowers there; the kids can riding the bike or the watering bike to vist special species of animals & birds like ostrich, camel, water buffalo & peacock. Absolutely, I will highly recommend this paradise to you & my family will come again, as my kids don't want to leave! Frankly speaking, it should be 5 stars standard instead.

My two best friends and I booked three nights at the Horizon Village Resort and got 100 times much more than what we asked for. The property was not only one of the cleanest and most luxurious resorts I've stayed at, but it had a gorgeous botanical garden, zoo, museum, spiritual center, and man-made lakes. We even had the unique opportunity of receiving a private tour of the 100-acre propert from the owner, whose husband was a former Secretary of Treasury. The experience was so unforgettable and so special, I would love to go back and make it my personal getaway. Btw, the Horizon's restaurant food was delicious - homegrown and organic too

This Boutique Hotel is one of the best i ever stayed. The ambient and the Lanna Architecture with the lake side setting is perfect for a few day of get away from the busy city life. The landscape is good and its will be better in a five to ten years times. They food in the little restaurant was surprisingly good !. The manager and the staff was very friend, But some of the staff does not speak or understand very little english. so sometimes communication is a problem while staying in the resort. if the resort wanted to achieve a 5 star rating in the future, it definitely need to make sure all the staff to be english spoken. The hotel is a little far from the City of Chiang Mai. So if u want to be close to the city life. this is not the hotel for u. My wife and i spent honey moon here, and it is perfect for a few days of get away. but unfortunately there are not much facility here apart from the pool and the C-SPA. (so so Massage !!) Overall, its a good little hotel. WE shall be back in five years times when they improve their facilities. By the way, next to this resort its a 100 acres botanical garden. Its very nicely done ! My best of luck to the resort !!

we stayed at the Horrizon during our Christmas 2007 holiday. we've found the hotel to be great value for money, we highly recommened it and rate the Horizzon at 5 stars, beautiful, romantic, and clean, the only down side is that it is very far from the city and to travel in to town cost up to 400 baht per trip. the service is great, all the staff spoke good english and always say Hi and have excellent manners. we would definately stay at the Horrizon again.TIP: HIRE A MOTOR BIKE FOR CONVIENCE.

We had a great time at Horizon Village. It is a beautiful place to stay and our kids had a blast feeding the animals/fish and running through the maze. It is a huge place but when you rent bikes, it is easy to get around. The food at the restaurant was good - a little expensive but good. The swimming pool was clean. We had several mosquitos in our room but other than that it was a great place to stay.

This was my third stay and second booked thru AsiaRooms(much cheaper than walk up rates). If I had the money I would move in. Everything is perfect in every way. And they remembered me by name. You do need a car to get to the hotel as it is about 15 km from the airport. I can't wait until my return visit next year.

The room we stayed in was gorgeous, the spa section and massages were great, and the lake and swans were nice too but so much was not up to scratch at the Horizon. Firstly, the hotel conveniently forgot to mention they were in the process of building a new wing of the hotel - the sound of construction woke us up, staff spoke very basic English, breakfast was dodgy, we waited an hour at the airport for our transfer and they charged us for it (!), we walked passed a porter watching porn on the guest computer (!!), I caught a peeping tom on the veranda that looked suspiciously like one of the staff... The place is gorgeous (aside from the construction) but they have no idea what service is. This hotel's a rural mishap.

The Packed Suite case
March 4, 2007
we stayed here at the beginning of march 07, the hotel was a good 20 min taxi ride from chaing mai city center which suited us as we could visit the city center and then retreat to this oasis, the grounds were breathtaking. our room was very tastefully decorated and spacious with a balcony on the edge of the lake with a good stock of fish and swans that swam to our balcony every morning to eat the bread we threw to them. the staff were very friendly and always willing to help. a very clean and enviromentally friendly hotel serving organic food. my wife had treatment and massage in the spa and it was the best of all the many spas throughout asia that she visited. well done to the staff, manager and owner for getting everything right.

Truly a boutique resort with lovely ambience, welcoming and caring General Manager. Inviting paddy fields, fish ponds & fair size botanical garden to roam or bike about. Would certainly recommend to singles, couples or families (children of all ages too as long as they can behave quietly near rooms, pool and dining areas.)
